Other Factors that Affect Container Prices
As with most products, the price of a storage container can vary due to several factors.
availability

Availability

Since 20’ and 40’ containers are the most widely used sizes, they are typically the most readily available. Smaller sizes are usually less available and therefore can be more expensive.
Age

Age

Age usually indicates the condition a container is in, so older shipping containers may have a discount due to their age.
Condition

Condition

The condition of the container, from dents and normal wear and tear, will dictate the price you pay for it as well. For a container in the best condition, expect to pay more for its longer life expectancy.
Location

Location

Your location from the store will affect prices, such as delivery. If you’re closer to the store or near a location where containers are readily available, this will reduce the costs.
Shape / Size

Shape / Size

The larger the container means a higher price for the added headroom and/or storage space.
Type

Type

The most popular containers are the steel Conex boxes, however, there are flatpack containers. These can be folded down completely and must be assembled on-site.

If it’s within your budget and you have space for it, you definitely can!
Not only can you customize the modifications to exactly what you want, you have easily accessible storage all year long. Plus, in the long run, you’ll be saving money versus renting a container instead.
Depending on the age of the container, newer ones typically come with a warranty while used containers may or may not and can be sold “as is.”
Steel shipping containers have a life span of 10 to 15 year, which can be extended with regular upkeep. Buying a used container means it has already been in use for a time while a newer container means you get the full life expectancy.
All shipping containers are made from steel and are able to withstand many of the elements while still protecting its contents. Containers can also be “graded” as A, B or C with A being the best quality. However, many choose to follow ISO standards for rating Connex boxes, meaning a certified ISO container is still considered freight worthy.
Be sure to think about where you want your container placed beforehand, since moving it after will require some effort. For delivery, you’ll need 55ft plus the length of the container for the delivery truck to drop the container. You’ll also need to account for the 12ft width of the container and 20ft overhead to swing the container off the truck.
Price for container delivery varies depending on the distance from the store you’re ordering from.
